Integrated Submission Grappling
Integrated Submission Grappling (ISG) at West Louisiana Jujutsu Training Academy is a comprehensive grappling program that brings together proven techniques and training methods from multiple grappling systems into one practical, well-rounded curriculum.
Rather than limiting students to a single style, ISG integrates elements of Jujutsu (BJJ), Greco-Roman Wrestling, Catch Wrestling, Sambo, Shooto, Judo, and traditional Jujutsu. Students learn how these different systems work together to develop effective takedowns, positional control, escapes, transitions, submissions, and overall grappling ability.
What Students Learn
Learning to safely and effectively bring an opponent to the ground using wrestling, Judo, Jujutsu, and Sambo-based techniques.
Developing control, balance, positioning, body locks, trips, and takedown entries from close range.
Understanding how to establish, maintain, escape, and transition between dominant grappling positions.
Training in properly controlled joint locks, chokes, holds, and other submission techniques appropriate to the student’s experience level.
Learning how to recognize dangerous positions, defend effectively, escape, and regain control.
Developing the ability to move smoothly from takedown to control, from one position to another, and from one submission opportunity to the next.
Applying techniques against a resisting training partner to develop timing, conditioning, problem-solving, and practical experience.
More Than Just BJJ
Jujutsu is an important part of our grappling curriculum, but Integrated Submission Grappling goes beyond any one grappling style.
Students are exposed to the strengths of several grappling traditions. Wrestling contributes pressure, takedowns, and control. Judo and Jujutsu provide throwing and off-balancing skills. Catch Wrestling and Sambo introduce additional approaches to control and submissions, while BJJ develops positional strategy and ground fighting.
The result is a grappling system designed to produce students who are comfortable standing, in the clinch, during the takedown, and on the ground.
Train for Skill, Confidence & Real Ability
Our goal at West Louisiana Jujutsu Training Academy is not simply to teach students a collection of techniques. We teach them how to understand grappling—how to control movement, recognize opportunities, solve problems under pressure, and connect techniques together.
Whether your goals are self-defense, physical fitness, martial arts development, competition, or becoming a more complete grappler, Integrated Submission Grappling provides a challenging and rewarding training environment.
Learn to control the position. Understand the transition. Finish with technique.
STX Boxing & Kickboxing
The STX Boxing & Kickboxing System at West Louisiana Jujutsu Training Academy is a comprehensive striking program designed to develop effective stand-up fighting skills, practical self-defense, physical conditioning, and confidence.
STX brings together proven principles and techniques from multiple striking arts into one integrated training system. Rather than limiting students to a single style of Boxing or Kickboxing, STX teaches students how to use punches, kicks, knees, elbows, footwork, defensive movement, combinations, and close-range striking as one complete system.
What Is STX?
STX is the Boxing and Kickboxing system taught at West Louisiana Jujutsu Training Academy.
The system incorporates techniques and training concepts from:
Western Boxing • Muay Thai • Savate • Kickboxing • Jun Fan/JKD Kickboxing • Filipino Panantukan
Each of these striking arts contributes different skills to STX. Western Boxing provides strong punching mechanics, combinations, footwork, head movement, and defense. Kickboxing and Muay Thai add powerful kicks, knees, elbows, and clinch skills. Savate contributes precision kicking, movement, timing, and distance control, while Panantukan and Jun Fan/JKD concepts expand the student’s understanding of close-range striking, angles, combinations, and practical self-defense.
The result is a well-rounded striking system designed to work at multiple ranges.
What Students Learn in STX
STX training begins by developing strong fundamentals and progressively builds more advanced striking skills.
Students don’t simply memorize individual techniques. They learn how to combine techniques, move between ranges, recognize openings, defend against attacks, and respond effectively under pressure.
In our classes, students learn:
- Proper fighting stance, movement, and footwork
- Boxing punches and combinations
- Defensive Boxing and head movement
- Counter-striking
- Angles and distance management
- Offensive and defensive movement
- Kicks to multiple levels and targets
- Punch-and-kick combinations
- Knees and elbow strikes
- Close-range striking
- Clinch fighting
- Pad and focus-mitt training
- Heavy-bag training
- Partner reaction drills
- Controlled sparring
- Striking for practical self-defense
- Strength, endurance, speed, and conditioning
Boxing Is a Major Foundation of STX
Strong hands are an essential part of the STX system. Students develop the fundamentals of Western Boxing, including proper punching mechanics, combinations, footwork, defensive movement, head movement, angles, counters, and distance control.
The goal isn’t simply to learn how to punch harder. Students learn how to move intelligently, create angles, defend themselves, recognize opportunities, and deliver effective combinations while maintaining proper balance and position.
Kickboxing Completes the Striking Range
STX expands the student’s Boxing foundation by incorporating a wide variety of kicking techniques along with knees, elbows, and close-range striking.
Students learn how to transition naturally between their hands and legs instead of treating Boxing and Kickboxing as two separate skills. A student may begin with a Boxing combination, transition into kicks, move into knee or elbow range, and continue into clinch fighting.
This creates a much more complete understanding of stand-up combat and striking range.
STX Is Not simply a Cardio Kickboxing Class
While students receive an excellent workout, the primary purpose of the system is to develop real martial arts skills.
Students learn to understand distance, timing, movement, defensive reactions, striking combinations, and how to remain composed while under pressure.
Because STX is taught as part of the overall curriculum at West Louisiana Jujutsu Training Academy, students can also learn how striking connects with other areas of martial arts, including Jujutsu, takedowns, throws, clinch fighting, and Integrated Submission Grappling.
This allows students to understand an important reality of self-defense: a confrontation may not remain at one range.
An Outstanding Full-Body Workout
Training with heavy bags, focus mitts, Thai pads, partner drills, footwork exercises, and conditioning drills helps students develop a wide range of physical and mental qualities. Instead of exercising for the sake of exercising, students build practical skills while improving their conditioning.
